The greatest gift I have received today is the soft breath of my baby, pulsing sleepily, slowly on my neck as we rock in the dark. I can hear the rhythm of life in every soft sigh. And my heart sighs relief for now. I bow my head in gratitude and say thanks. Just yesterday I held this same small body as it convulsed and quaked, begging her to wake up, shaking as I tried to keep her airway open until the paramedics could arrive. I so wanted to hear that life rhythm breath. He was so very gracious.
With open hands and open heart I give thanks with all my soul. For the breath of life. Today.
