I was sitting at my kitchen table drinking my morning coffee and enjoying the peace and serenity of the morning. As I sat there and watched the dappled shade move across the grass I began noticing the beauty of the dew on the grass. As the shade moved, the dew sparkled like diamonds in the sun. The whole scene was almost overwhelming. Then I thought again, how if we only look, God’s gifts of grace surround us each and every day from the sublime to the simple. Dew on grass. Who knew?

Lightening bugs

Tonight is a crisp cool spring night in the deep south. The moon is full and bright. The woods are pitch black except for the thousand gifts of light blinking and beckoning. Lightening bugs!!! Little morse code magic insects that light up the night with joy and fun. I watch as one approaches and circles me. I take a step and it is as if they all sense my presence and the signals pause and then erupt into a new bevy of communication.

I wonder if this is how the prayers of saints appears? Beacons of Holy Spirit inspired transmission to the Father. All noted. All heard. All seen. All important.

As I lift up prayers for so many in my world that are frightened because they found out today they have cancer and are facing body altering surgery, frustrated because the test studied for so hard did not go as well as hoped for and needed, anxious as they await word of son in Afganistan, determined to storm heavens gates for answers that are hidden, thankful for all the blessings of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and sorrowful because they have been left behind and loved ones are now in the arms of Jesus I wonder if my communication with the Almighty is this pure, holy, light, and hopeful.

Hummingbird blessings

My beautiful gift from God….May 8th, 2012…I love hummingbirds, I have feeders out all summer long and have literally swarms of them at times. This year I put my feeder out in mid April because we had such a mild winter I thought maybe they would migrate back early…..May 8th rolled around and I still hadn’t seen one. That morning while sipping my coffee I told the Lord..”I would really like to see a hummingbird today.”…..I proceeded to get ready for work…I stopped to eat a bite for breakfast….right in the middle of my breakfast I looked up to see a lovely hummingbird at my feeder. I responded with “OOOHHH” and then a tearful “Thank you Jesus”…..all because He loves me so. He is so good to me and is deserving of all praise!

This book has been an eye-opening blessing. Gifts today: 1) A blessing in the form of an email to my husband regarding a stressful situation he has been struggling with and sleepless over, 2) Sheets blowing in the wind on the clothesline, 3) Five lovely daughters and the opportunity to still be their mom even though they are grown.

1. I don’t know how to Twitter or Facebook so I’m thankful for this page that makes it so easy!

2. Thank You God for the bubbly, silly, heart warming enthusiasm of my two granddaughters and that I had the privelege of spending two weeks with them.

3. Thank You God for Mom who lives with me joyfully, tenderly, and lovingly, even though legally blind, crippled with arthritis, dependant on a pacemaker, and suffering with a multitude of ailments and a worn out body… and that her love for me and everyone around her never wears out.

4. Thank You God for my greatest of earthly gifts – my husband, and for the 39 blessed years you have granted us.

5. Thank You God for the desert where I live, for a lovely view of the mountains, for the coyotes that howl at night and the quail that cluck and chirp and flutter outside my window early in the morning. It’s harder to thank You for the woodpeckers that drill holes in my siding, or those pesky packrats, but I’m working on it.

6. Thank You that Dad has not needed to start dialysis yet.

7. Thank You that in Mom’s many falls she’s never broken a bone.

8. Thank You for allowing me to discover the where-abouts of my old fountain pen and renew the joy in journaling with real ink.

9.Thank You for the treat in “meeting” the giant octopus – and I really think she waved at me from behind the glass.

10. Thank You for 100 piece puzzles of kittens that little girls can quickly and easily assemble before supper on the kitchen table.

11. Thank You for hot showers and clean water (that wasn’t always available in Mexico), and for not having to boil water or use bottled when it’s time to brush my teeth.

12. Thank You for church services in my heart language.

13. Thank You for Your great love for me, for Your mercy new every morning, Your forgiveness, Your Presence, Your guidance, Your blessings. Thank You for wanting me and never giving up on me.

1) Steady work. 2)Bought the book! Encouraged by it . . . . 3) Words for our church — “You are our letter, written in our hearts . . . ” We are leaving after 14 years. Mixed emotions, but encouraged by the prospects and new place the Lord has given.
